RECREATIONAL RIDER
1. Payment. Due the first week of the month. Trail Club, Saddle Club, and Rider Club are $125/month. Make checks payable to Rustic Trail Stable. A $15 fee will be applied to payments made after the 10th of the month. Credits due from RTS must be used within 2 months of issue. Cash payment envelopes are available in the stable office. Please mark your envelope with rider's name and amount; place envelope with payment in the black mail holder. For check payment, please put rider's name on the 'memo' line of the check and place into the black mail holder. The black mail holder is located at the top of the ramp entrance to the office/restroom.
2. Missed Lessons You may attend 2 make-up lessons each school year. You may attend 1 make-up lesson if you participate in a summer riding program. There are no credits or make-ups if you have received 4 lessons in any one month.
3. Family members and guests. To ensure safety, do not enter the barn and keep away from the horses unless invited to participate by the instructor. Parents are responsible for the safety of non-riding family members and guests while they are at the stable. All non-riding guests must be closely supervised by a parent/adult at all times. Riders in Trail Club and Saddle Club must leave the barn area immediately following their lesson.
4. Trail Club. Riders age 5 and older. Riders receive 30 minutes of private instruction including introduction to the art/sport of riding from the safety of the lunge or lead line. There are two teen instructors for each rider. Riders learn equitation for the first half of the lesson and then they go on a trail ride for the latter half of the lesson. Instructors are nearby and/or actually leading the horse at all times.
5. Saddle Club. Riders age 8 and older. Riders receive 45 minutes of private instruction and learn all aspects of horsemanship: riding, grooming, leading, tacking, care, and stable management. Riders groom and tack with the help of a teen or adult instructor. The time riding is approximately 25 minutes. Instructor is nearby at all times.
6. Saddle Club Group Lessons. Saddle Club riders participate in a 2-hour group lesson on the 4th meeting of the month. The group environment allows the riders to interact socially and enhances the horsemanship experience.
7. Rider Club. Riders age 9 - adult. Group lesson with up to 4 riders. Lessons are 2 hours. Riders complete a chore, collect, groom, tack, mount, and ride to the lesson area. Teen or adult instructor is available for all activities. Rider spends one hour on the horse with an instructor practicing skills. After the lesson, riders cool, untack, groom, and return their horse.
8. Private lessons. Recreational riders may take additional private lessons on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday for an additional $35-$45 for a 45-minute private lesson.
9. Cancelations. If you need to cancel your lesson for any reason, please call the stable cell phone at 850-324-7682. Horses, riders, and instructors are on a busy schedule and 'no-shows' impact the entire stable. You may be dismissed from the riding program if you have more than 3 'no shows.' Please call - even if you remember at the last minute that you will miss your lesson.
10. Stable Cancellations. If the stable cancels your lesson due to holiday, severe weather, or if your instructor is unavailable, you will receive a credit for the following month. However, if you have received 4 lessons/month - there are no make-ups or credits (even if stable cancels your lesson.)
11. Rain Days. Trail Club will not operate on rainy days and you will receive a credit. Saddle Club and Rider Club will meet on rainy days. This is an opportunity to learn about horse care and health/stable management!
12. Barn chores. Assigned Saddle Club and Rider Club riders 8 years and older. Riders are to complete their assigned barn chores before leaving the barn.
13. Arrival time. Recreational Riders should arrive in the barn 5 minutes before the lesson time. Rider club riders may arrive 15 minutes early; but they will be assigned chores while waiting for their lesson time. Rider club riders may not proceed to complete chores or collect horses without instructor permission.
14. Apparel. Wear appropriate gear for riding: long pants, close fitting shirt/jacket, closed-toe shoes/boots with less than 1-inch heel. Secure long hair so it does not interfere with riding or with proper helmet fitting. After 2 months of lessons, proper riding attire (riding breeches/tights/chaps/boots) will be required to ensure the best performance and safety.
15. Health tip. Bring water to keep you hydrated at the stable. Dress appropriately for the weather.
16. Progression. Riders may not progress at the same rate. Riding is a combination of sport, art, and recreation. You will progress as an individual and not as a group. You will be assigned lessons and exercises appropriate for your skill level. Your instructor will evaluate your rate of progress.
17. Dismissal. If you engage in unsafe, disobedient, dishonest, or disruptive behavior you will be asked to dismount or leave the stable area immediately. Your lesson will be over for the day. Riders who continue to engage in these behaviors will be dismissed from the program.
18. Treats. Only the riders may give the horses a treat; use the treat bucket (no treats from your hands). You may bring carrots, apples, or peppermints.
19. Discounts. Families with more than one member enrolled in the riding program receive a 10% discount. Riders attending more than one lesson each week receive 10% discount.
20. Pastures. Do not enter the pasture without the permission of the instructor.
21. Insurance. Riders/Parents must certify that the rider(s) have health insurance and will maintain health insurance while participating in equine activities with Rustic Trail Stable.
22. Liability. Riders/Parents certify that they have read, understand, and will comply with the Florida Equine Law.
“An equine activity sponsor, an equine professional, or any other person, which shall include a corporation or partnership, shall not be liable for an injury to or the death of a participant resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities and, no participant nor any participant's representative shall have any claim against or recover from any equine activity sponsor, equine professional, or any other person for injury, loss, damage, or death of the participant resulting from any of the inherent risks of equine activities.”
